Significant Career Experience

Melissa, a Senior Manager, has over 20 years of tax, accounting, and consulting experience in public accounting. During her time with the firm, she has touched virtually every industry that Wegmann Dazet serves.

A typical day helping clients might include working on a tricky family trust return, helping a retail business choose the best entity-type for tax planning, calculating future NOLs for a manufacturer, or working through estate estimates and assisting clients with gifting. Melissa occasionally speaks to college students regarding the public accounting career path and represents the firm at recruiting events, and she helps train our tax staff.

When not at work, Melissa enjoys watching her sons play baseball, hunting, fishing, and taking summer road trips with her family, or spending time with the cows on her mini-farm.

Melissa’s responsibilities include:

• Reviewing complex federal and state/local income tax returns for corporations (C- and S-), partnerships, individuals, gifts, trusts, estates, and multi-state filings
• Income tax planning for closely held businesses and their owners
• Ensuring tax compliance for federal and state taxes, gifts, IRS and state assistance, and tax notice responses
• Representing individuals, corporations, partnerships, and estates before the IRS and states during examinations
• Researching federal and state tax issues for clients
• Estate law planning for individuals including working closely with the clients’ attorneys
• Setting up tax staff training programs
